Mental Health Camp at the Parliament Kingdom Kampala.

  • by

On 17th February, 2026, FAJ Counselling and Consultancy expressed interest in participating in the Parliamentary Mental Health Camp at Parliament Kingdom Kampala. The coordinator of Uganda Parliamentary Forum for Mental Health (UPFMH) provided a comprehensive overview of the annual Mental Health Camp initiative organized by the Parliament of Uganda. The Forum aims to educate Members of Parliament (MPs) about mental health.

Briefing on Parliament Mental Health Camp

  • The camp aims to educate Members of Parliament (MPs) about mental health.
  • The first two days are conducted in a conference/summit format.
  • Panel discussions cover mental health issues relating to health, disabilities, children and young women.
  • The event is open to the public.
  • NGOs may participate either monetarily or through agreed contributions.
  • Hospitals can also be involved to support referrals and patient care.
  • Partners can be officially introduced, providing visibility and an advertising platform.
  • Organizations contributing to the budget may front a panelist.
  • The event may be broadcast live to reach a wider audience.
  • Partnership contributions provide exhibition space (a table for display).
  • Participating organizations are expected to self-sponsor through their agreed contributions.
  • It was noted that LDC is introducing mental health and counselling programs

What was proposed

  • FAJ Counselling and Consultancy was encouraged to attend in uniform for visibility and branding and carry screening tools and actively promote its services.
  • FAJ could moderate a mental health awareness X (Twitter) Space twice a month as an in-kind contribution.
  •  It was also clarified that while the Parliament forum does not directly provide services, it can link leaders to agencies such as FAJ Counselling and Consultancy. Additionally, it was noted that the partnership could lead to ministerial invitations and improved donation linkages for essential items such as sanitary towels.

The camp was productive and laid the foundation for a collaborative relationship between FAJ Counselling and Consultancy and the Parliament of Uganda. Both parties expressed commitment to advancing mental health awareness among leaders and the public. The proposed partnership extends beyond the Mental Health Week event and presents opportunities for sustained engagement, digital awareness initiatives (including X Spaces discussions), and institutional collaboration.
